People talk of endings
As if they’re fruit
Ripe on the vine,
just pick one and go.
We never talk about
What this is,
This kind of ending.
There’s quitting the band
Tiredness setting into bones
Far too long away
There’s walking away from the spotlight
But this was none of that.
A guttural hymn
A desperate cry
Shock without the awe
Who will save you?
A final morning
Mourning
Alone.
As many have surely heard today, Chester Bennington of Linkin Park has committed suicide. As a teenager finding myself, one of my greatest solaces were in the lyrics of songs like “Crawling” and “My December,” where Chester and Mike Shinoda both led me through my darkness and to the solid ground on the other side.
I am heartbroken at his death- there are so many stigmas surrounding mental health that we as a society desperately need to overcome. Please, if you ever feel alone in the dark, reach out; here is the National Suicide Lifeline Website, and their phone number is 1-800-273-8255.
Requiescat in Pace, Chester. Hate to lose a soldier.
