Draft2Digital will now be charging fees, and honestly, I’m not in love with the idea that on top of taking a percentage already, that I might have to pay them more (a flat rate, mind you, not even the difference between the two numbers) for not hitting a sales goal percentage.
That being said, distribution might start looking a little different for e-books than it does now. Draft2Digital handles all of my channels outside of Amazon, so it’s a huge bummer that my books might need to come down to avoid racking up more fees.
It’s really a shame, as D2D has been a great platform for most of my author career- I just can’t add more fees to *gestures to the entire world* right now. This is on top of other changes, where payouts were limited (with higher thresholds) and other things.
So! Grab those e-books from your favorite retailers (other than Amazon, because they’re separate and unaffected by this) while you can!
